The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are working to restructure the contract of Mike Evans, according to sources.
Tampa Bay wants to create more cap space.
Evans has the highest cap hit on the team at $16.637 million. The 28-year-old has three years left on a five-year, $82.5 million extension.
The latest NFL Players Association salary-cap report lists the Buccaneers with $270,339 in cap space.
The Minnesota Vikings and Harrison Smith have agreed to a four-year, $64 million contract extension.
It makes Smith the second-highest paid safety in the NFL.
Smith said all offseason that his goal was to remain in Minnesota. He was heading into the final year of the five-year extension he signed with the team in 2016.
The Detroit Lions have released Breshad Perriman, according to a source.
Perriman signed a one-year, $3 million deal in March and was expected to play a significant role with the team.
The move comes despite the Lions guaranteeing $2 million on the wide receiver's contract.
Robby Anderson and the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a two-year extension worth $29.5 million.
Anderson's deal includes $20.5 million in guaranteed money.
Anderson caught 95 balls for 1,096 yards and three touchdowns last season.
The Atlanta Falcons are signing Josh Rosen to replace AJ McCarron, who tore his right ACL in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game.
Rosen will compete with Feleipe Franks as the backup to Matt Ryan.
"It doesn't mean if we add someone this week, doesn't mean that we may not add another person next week," Arthur Smith said. "We'll continue to monitor that."
The Minnesota Vikings are expected to sign Everson Griffen.
From 2010 to 2019 with the Vikings, Griffen totaled 74.5 sacks, which ranks seventh in franchise history. He was named a Pro Bowler four times in Minnesota, including three straight seasons from 2015 to '17.
In February 2020, Griffen opted out of his contract and became a free agent. He signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys in August 2020 and was traded to the Detroit Lions two months later.
Tyrann Mathieu is the next safety in line for a new contract, but he may have to wait.
Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said that while the Kansas City Chiefs would like to extend Mathieu's contract beyond its end this season, the timing isn't right for it to happen soon.
"The landscape is super tricky," Veach said. "We're at a $30 million [salary-cap] deficit from what we thought, and next year it's $15 million. Right now some things are out of our control just because of the cap reductions this year and next year. If you look at our books for next year, we're going to be over by a bunch.
"Right now we're counting Orlando [Brown] on a [franchise] tag, but we think he's going to play well, and we're going to extend him, and that opens up space. Restructuring [with other players] opens up space. Some guys moving on will open up space.
"It's frustrating because we're handicapped a little, and there are only certain things we can do to make it make sense for him. But where we are now is going to be completely different than where we will be once the season ends, and we have a lot more clarity on contracts and how the money is disbursed and allocated and how we can fit things and how we can make it work. It's just tricky right now. But it has nothing to do with us not wanting him or him not wanting to be here. It's just one of those unfortunate timing things."
After five months of negotiations, the Seattle Seahawks have finally agreed to a contract extension with Jamal Adams.
The safety's mother pushed the deal through when she sent her son a text message Monday night from back home in Dallas.
"She said my full name, and when my mother says my full name, I think I need to pay attention," Adams said. "She gave me a nice little paragraph and basically just told me that you don't have to prove anything else to anybody. You did enough. We're happy. As long as my family's happy and I'm happy, I can come and do what I love to do, that's all that matters to me."
Adams can make as much as $72 million over four years under the new deal. He is now the NFL's highest-paid safety. He will receive a $20 million signing bonus and $38 million guaranteed.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have cut Tim Tebow.
Jacksonville signed Tebow this offseason as he had previously played for Urban Meyer at Florida.
Tebow last played in an NFL regular season game in 2012 with the New York Jets.
